چکیده

Measurements have been conducted in an anechoic chamber for comparison to current linear acoustic theory for radiation directivity from a cylindrical pipe with toneholes. Time-delay spectrometry using an exponentially swept sine signal was employed to determine impulse responses at points external to the experimental air column. This technique is effective in clearly isolating nonlinear artifacts from the desired linear system response along the time axis, allowing the use of a strong driving signal without fear of nonlinear distortion. The experimental air column was positioned through a wall conduit into the anechoic chamber such that the driver and pipe input were located outside the chamber while the open pipe end and toneholes were inside the chamber, effectively isolating the source from the pickup. Measured results are compared to both frequency-domain, transmissionnetwork simulations, as well as time-domain, digital waveguide calculations.

Digital Waveguide Modeling of Woodwind Toneholes

This paper demonstrates a digital waveguide implementation of a six-hole woodwind tonehole lattice, based on theory and measurements published by Keefe (1981). Woodwind tonehole transmission-matrix parameters are converted to traveling-wave scattering parameters suitable for digital waveguide implementation. Second-order digital filters are designed to approximate the reflection and transmissio...

Analytical Solution for Sound Radiation of Vibrating Circular Plates coupled with Piezo-electric Layers

In the present study, the classical plate theory (CPT) was used to study sound radiation of forced vibrating thin circular plates coupled with piezoelectric layers using simply supported and clamped boundary conditions. The novelty of the study consists of an exact closed-form solution that was developed without any use of approximation. Piezoelectric, electrical potential loaded in the transve...

Comparison of theoretical and experimental results for the directivity of panels and openings

A theoretical method has been developed for predicting the directivity of the sound that is radiated from one side of a panel, or an opening, which is excited by sound incident from the other side of the panel, or the opening, from a room or duct. This directivity needs to be known when one is predicting the sound level at an external position which is due to the radiation of sound from the roo...

Improving the directivity of the plasmonic sectoral horn nanoantenna using lens in its aperture

Horn antennas can result in good impedance matching between the waveguide and free space due to the gradual increase in the aperture size. In this paper, a novel plasmonic sectoral horn nanoantenna based on using lens in the aperture is proposed. It is investigated that in addition to improvement of the directivity, the reflection coefficient is also reduced using the proper lens structure. The...

Directivity Pattern Measurement of Ultrasound Transducers

Both diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound applications require an understanding of the directivity patterns on the transducers to design ultrasound equipment and faithfully characterize the acoustic output from medical ultrasound devices. Since each ultrasound transducer has its own specific directivity pattern, the measurement of the directivity pattern is necessary. The objectives of this wo...
